Norman Jacknis

Dr. Norman Jacknis is Senior Fellow at the New York based Intelligent Community Forum with special responsibility for the Rural Imperative program. Dr. Jacknis was most recently Director of Cisco's IBSG Public Sector Group and is a globally recognized expert in government innovation and transformation. Government Technology Magazine selected him as one of the one of America “Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers who, using technology…broke bureaucratic inertia to better serve the public.” At Cisco he worked in-depth with the National Association of Counties and the U.S. Conference of Mayors in the development of a strategy for the economic viability of American cities in 2030. For 10 years Dr. Jacknis was the CIO for Westchester County, New York. In 2008 under his leadership the community was ranked as one of the Top7 Intelligent Communities in the world. He still lives in Westchester. Dr. Jacknis also served as co-chair of the technology and architecture committee of the New York State CIO Council and he participated in the Federal/State/Local Partnership for Intergovernmental Innovation. His writings include articles for elected government representatives and he also served as an executive in the software industry with emphasis on Internet applications and distributed computing. Dr. Jacknis received his Doctorate, Master's and Bachelor degrees from Princeton University. Dr. Jacknis is a current member of the New York State Regents Advisory Council on LIbraries and President of the New York Metropolitan LIbrary Council.
