Alexandra Barlow

Alexandra Barlow has had an interest in economic development before she even really knew what economic development was. She’s still not entirely sure what it is. Having worked with various levels of government, not-for-profits and private consulting firms, she’s beginning to understand. Economic Development is everything! Her particular interests in the field include rural development, community resiliency, business development, government funding and technology and innovation. Other not-related interests include critical theory, feminism, pop culture and Canadian politics. A grad from the University of Guelph Political Science department (B.A & M.A), Alex has refused to leave the City of Guelph since and makes her home there with her partner Ryan and noble dog Eddie. When she is not working as a Team Lead at Mentor Works, helping local businesses access government grants and funding for their strategic initiatives, she enjoys reading, walking, cycling, and obsessively watching seasons of good television. She’s also part of the Young Professionals Network at the Economic Development Council of Ontario, and can be seen at many of their events across the GTA, mention this bio when you see her, and she might buy you a beer.
