How Nairobi built a thriving tech community
Greg Scruggs / April 14, 2015
Greg Scruggs at CityLab takes a look at Nairobi’s growing tech scene. As well as housing large companies like Google, IBM and Intel, the Kenyan capital is also a hub for startups, some of which are actively engaged in tackling urban poverty and other issues. While Silicon somethings are popping up around the world, Nairobi offers some unique insights into things like the relationship between technology and the informal economy, the opportunities and challenges created by planned developments, and the role of technology in the economic development of developing nations.
