Where are Canada’s PhDs employed?

Daniel Munro at the Conference Board of Canada takes a look at where the roughly 208,480 people in Canada with doctorates are employed. The number of PhDs in Canada has grown by almost 50 percent since 2001. While PhD holders have an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent (below the average of 6.2 percent for all Canadians), only 18.6 percent work as full-time university professors, with even fewer in tenured or tenure-track roles.
