The Business Development Board (BDB) is an organization that focuses on economic development in Palm Beach County, Florida. By the relocation, retention, and expansion of companies to or in the county, job creation is the main drive towards economic development. Operating for over 30 years, the BDB has made a significant impact on job creation in Palm Beach County. For example, over the past 5 years, the organization has created over 10,000 jobs within the county. According to CareerSource, Palm Beach County’s unemployment rate of 5.6% is the lowest that it has been in over 6 years.
There’s much more to Palm Beach County than just the sun that drives businesses here throughout the year. In a 2011 cost analysis by the Boyd Company, Inc., Palm Beach County ranked 16 out of 55 as one of the best places to operate a corporate headquarters. It’s the corporate home to Office Depot, B/E Aerospace, Garda, ADT, FTI Consulting, NCCI, Florida Crystals, and NextEra Energy to name a few. Palm Beach County is one of the most vibrant, diversified live, work, learn, play environments in the Southeast U.S. The county’s major employers benefit from a convenient transportation system which includes easy access to I-95, the Florida Turnpike and three international airports. Companies also have the privilege of boasting a strong track record of recruiting highly skilled employees that speak many different languages.
While creating jobs throughout the county, the BDB has also created valuable opportunities amongst CEOs and high level executives to invest into economic development of Palm Beach County. By offering premier, VIP events, professional business women and men have discovered value within the organization as it has emerged into a distinguished place for high level professionals to unite and collaborate all while helping to bring jobs to the county.
Because education is an economic development driver, the BDB recently launched an initiative aimed at promoting the area’s education assets. Part of the initiative is the development of a website – http://www.pbcedu.org which serves as main source of educational information for the county. The website has created a much broader awareness of the prestigious school system within Palm Beach County.
