Growing an urban neighborhood, one store at a time

Leah Binkovitz at NPR shares the story of a Washington D.C. neighborhood that’s trying to attract businesses to what could be described as a food and retail desert. Of particular interest is Vibrant Streets Toolkit, which charts what types of businesses can realistically be attracted by a community, which came out of work done by the city planners and  Heather Arnold, research director for the D.C. planning and design firm Streetsense.
