Commuting places as community spaces

In this post on the Sustainable Cities Collective,  the folks at Future Cape Town share some insights into how public transit stations, like London’s Tube stations, can become public spaces rather than just entrances or exits to the public transit system. Using the relatively new Canary Wharf station as an example, Future Cape Town suggests that by grounding individual stations on their local communities and designing them to reflect local character, those involved in transport planning can take a “community-centered, place-making oriented approach to city design”.
