In what has become an annual event, people in cities around the world set up tiny temporary parks in parking spaces. Park(ing) Day, which originated in San Francisco in 2005, aims to illustrate how ordinary urban spaces could be re-imagined. The event has grown every year since then, creating 975 parks in 162 cities in 2011 (the last year the creators counted). Ben Schiller at Fast Company shares more about the event.
