Urban placemaking: Alleyways into livable laneways and country lanes

Several homes in Vancouver back onto alleyways, which are considered as service roads for trucks and residents to get to and from their houses. In a recent article in the National Post, Vancouver launched a project to transform back alleys into grassy country lanes to allow neighbours to get to know one another. These alleys have become a place to have barbecues and outdoor summer parties.
