The continuing decline of the ‘middle-skill’ worker

Tavia Grant at The Globe and Mail takes a look at the polarization of Canada’s workforce that has seen “middle-skill” jobs, such as administrators and operators, decline at the same time as high-skill jobs are on the rise. According to a TD paper release earlier this year, middle-skill jobs lost the greatest share of employment from 1999 to 2010, falling by 4.7 percent. The share of high-skill jobs rose by 8.6 percent during the same time.
