Sharing economy disasters: Can Lyft and Airbnb save San Francisco when the big one hits?

Aaron Sankin from the Huffington Post gives information on tech-savvy start-ups such as Lyft and Airbnb which are used to help supplement San Francisco’s relatively low supply of taxicabs and hotel rooms. Officials are now looking into the sharing economy by leveraging technology and innovation to promote preparedness and resilience during the time of a disaster. An excellent example is that Airbnb were able to reconfigure their systems to allow people to list rooms that were available (at no cost) for those who were displaced by Superstorm Sandy.
